Markus Kattenbeck has been leading the Spatial-HCI lab at the TU Wien’s Division of Geoinformation since May 2019. Prior to his appointment he was working as a Postdoctoral Researcher and study coordinator of the Digital Humanities Master’s Programme at the University of Regensburg (Bavaria, Germany). He defended his PhD on empirical measurement of salience for pedestrian navigation in 2016 at this University. Markus holds a Master’s degree in Information Science and Comparative European Ethnology from this university. His undergraduate studies, during which he studied at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia for 10 months time, were funded by the Bavarian government. His publications touch on different research areas ranging from Behavioral Geography and Geographic Information Science to Human-Computer-Interaction. His research interests include but are not restricted to:

  • Spatial Human-Computer Interaction
  • Behavioral Geography
  • Eye Tracking
  • Visualization of large scale geographic data
  • Sensor fusion
  • Location-based Services and Human Information Behaviour
  • Empirical Methods for Human Subject Experiments (quantitative and qualitative)
