Negar Alinaghi, born in Tehran, Iran in 1992, has started her PhD research program at Geoinformation Research Group at TU Wien since 2020. Having a diploma in Mathematics, she pursued her educations in B.Sc. of Civil and Geomatics Engineering at University of Tehran. During her education, she met some outstanding scholars in the field of GIScience and that shaped her research interests towards Geoinformatics and spatial data analysis. She therefore followed her M.Sc. program in Geospatial Information Systems right after her B.Sc graduation again in University of Tehran but under supervision of Prof. Andrew Frank from Geoinformation Research Group at TUWien. She worked on cognitive engineering for geospatial services and natural language processing with focus on syntax, semantics and pragmatics of spatial descriptions to study how such natural language instructions may reveal/ affect humans’ spatial thinking and knowledge acquisition. To fulfill her M.Sc. research she received a one year position as a visiting researcher at TUWien in 2015. In the same year she, as a master student, was accepted for AGILE PhD school in Champs sur Marne, France.
After graduation, she started her career as a project assistant and later project manager in GIS departments of Iranian National Oil Company, implementing web and mobile GIS and LIS apps.
Her current reserach interests lie in representing and modeling people’s cognition and spatio-temporal behavior and the integration of such models into geospatial applications for the enhancement of Human-Computer Interactions.
