Dr.
Markus Kattenbeck
Lead of Spatial-HCI Lab
Department for Geodesy and Geoinformation
Biography
Markus Kattenbeck has been leading the Spatial-HCI Lab at the TU Wien’s Division of Geoinformation since May 2019. From 3/2022-8/2024 he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow as part of the European Commission’s H2020 Actions (see his research blog about the project). Prior to his appointment as Lead of the Spatial-HCI Lab he was working as a Postdoctoral Researcher and study coordinator of the Digital Humanities Master’s Programme at the University of Regensburg (Bavaria, Germany). He defended his PhD on empirical measurement of salience for pedestrian navigation in 2016 at this University. Markus holds a Master’s degree in Information Science and Comparative European Ethnology from this university. His undergraduate studies were funded by a fellowship by the Bavarian government – including a 10 months study abroad at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia. His research is highly interdiscplinary, touching on GIScience, Spatial Cognition, Behavioral Geography, and Human-Computer Interaction. His research interests include but are not restricted to:
- Spatial Human-Computer Interaction
- Human Wayfinding Behavior
- Eye and Body Tracking
- Location-based Services and Human Information Behaviour
- Empirical Methods for Human Subject Experiments (quantitative and qualitative)
- Visualization of large scale geographic data
- Sensor fusion
